TOTTENHAM 0-0 ARSENAL

1: I really don’t understand what Unai Emery has done with his starting XI today. Has he over-thought this? The new tinker man perhaps…

Shkodran Mustafi does indeed start at right back with Henrikh Mkhitaryan protecting him. Can’t see that going well. Anyway, we’re underway!

Prediction

12:28: I usually sit on the fence but I think I’ll go for a bold prediction today. The Arsenal changes have left me stumped – so I think that Spurs will win this afternoon. 3-1.

Mind games?

12:26: Crafty mind games going on here? The Arsenal side delayed their walk down the tunnel and made Tottenham wait for a couple of minutes.

All part of the Unai Emery masterclass? Fergie would be proud.

That’s the spot

12:23: Just under 10 minutes until we’re underway folks. Jake Humphrey and the BT Sport gang have just treated us to a close up shot of the centre-circle. And, in particular, the piece of grass that kick off will be taken from. Subscription worth every single penny.

Twitter round-up

Mark: Got a good feeling about today’s game. I’m calling a 3-1 victory for Arsenal. We love a bit of Wembley!

Riki: Any result from the NLD will be good for Manchester United, provided they beat the Saints later on. But I think it will be a draw today.

James: I don’t know what this line up is. To win 5-1 midweek and then drop half the team is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve been all for Emery and what he’s doing this season but anything other than a victory should bring justified criticism.

‘They are all derbies’

12:15: Mauricio Pochettino acknowledges the occasion of a derby, but says every game is significant.

“Today Chelsea and Arsenal are the same level in terms of rivalry,” he added. “We are playing Fulham, Watford, West Ham, Arsenal, Chelsea… they’re all London derbies.

“We are going to try and win the game because they’re so important for the fans. But Burnley was important for the fans, too. The rivalry is so important because of the history, but every game, for us, is so important.”

Ah yes, the highly-anticipated Watford vs Tottenham derby…

Pochettino’s home comforts

12:10: Mauricio Pochettino has never lost a home Premier League game against Arsenal (P5 W3 D2 L0) – the only manager to have managed more home games against the Gunners without losing is Jose Mourinho (9).

Warm up…

12:08: Can we call that a warm up? The Arsenal substitutes are on the pitch warming up together away from the starting XI.

But instead of doing drills – they are just playing keepie uppie with tricks and skills. The lads tried to push Ainsley Maitland-Niles into the middle of the circle to chase the ball. He refused.

To say they were unenthusiastic would be an understatement.

Twitter round-up

Adedayo: Ozil, I partially understand why he is on the bench but benching Auba I don’t understand. What is Emery doing?

Neal: We’ve got like for like replacements in Lacazette and Ramsey for Aubameyang and Ozil. But no Torreira? Hope Emery knows what he’s doing!

Jackson: All this talk about Ozil, just play him. Guendouzi lacks class and has lost the ball in dangerous areas. Play Denis Suarez, Torreira and Xhaka instead… surprised to see Ramsey starting.

Away day

12:04: The away team have won just one of the last 16 Premier League fixtures between Spurs and Arsenal, with the Gunners winning 1-0 at White Hart Lane in March 2014; the home team has won each of the last four since April 2017.

Unai Emery explains

12:00: So Unai Emery has just explained his starting XI.

Asked why he’s made five changes to the side that smashed Bournemouth to bits, the Gunners boss said that he needed high energy from his side and wanted quality on the bench…

I’m no manager, but don’t you want your best players starting?! I make SIX out of SEVEN Arsenal substitutes that should arguably be in the team.

Twitter round-up

Tom: As a concerned fan, I’ll love to have an explanation why Mesut Ozil didn’t start. And the excuse will be fatigue, why let him run out the whole match against Bournemouth when the match was won?!

Mo: Lucas Torreira on the bench?! This could be a costly mistake on the team selection.

Daniel: As a Spurs fan and judging on our team alone, we will lose, reverting back to a back 3 where we rarely play well with, no Moura in starting XI and starting formation changes again! Why has MP abandoned the 4-2-3-1 that has served so well for 3-4 years?

Josh: As a Spurs fan, very pleased with our lineup. Think its our best 11 we have and hope we can snatch the points. Biggest NLD in the past decade in my opinion. COYS.

Is it law for Tottenham supporters to start their tweets with ‘As a Spurs fan’??

Team news – Arsenal

11:50: Gamble is the order of the day for Unai Emery.

The Arsenal tactician has taken a big gamble on today’s line-up with Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the bench.

Shkodran Mustafi, Aaron Ramsey, Alexandre Lacazette, Alex Iwobi and Granit Xhaka start in place of Aubameyang, Ozil, Lucas Torreira, Sead Kolasinac and Carl Jenkinson.

I believe that means Mustafi is starting at right back…

Team news – Tottenham

11:45: No real surprises in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI.

With Harry Winks injured there’s a place for the lesser-spotted Victor Wanyama, who makes his first Premier League start since November.

Elsewhere Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose are back with Erik Lamela and Ben Davies dropping out.

No magic, you know

11:40: Quite unsettling comments from Mauricio Pochettino during his press conference yesterday. Unsettling if you’re a Spurs supporter, of course.

Pochettino told Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to find another “magic guy” if he is expected to start winning the Premier League and Champions League in the club’s current climate.

“I cannot change opinions and everyone can judge us in a different way,” he said. “That’s why I told you that, maybe if Daniel said to me next season, ‘We need to win a title, we need to win the Champions League and we need to win the Premier League’, then maybe you need to find another magic guy who can do this.

“You cannot put a gun here (points to head) and say, ‘We need to win’, if we’re not fighting with the same tools as another team.”

Twitter round-up

Sarah: That NLD feeling… a mixture of excitement, dread, worry, anticipation and so much more. Is it too early to start drinking?

Russ: Unai Emery masterclass, he’s doing what Chelsea did against Spurs with the 4-2-3-1 formation, that’s my manager!

Eugene: Ozil and Aubameyang not starting in a big game? Emery must be nuts whether he wins this or not its pathetic.

Piers: No Torreira either?? He was brilliant against Spurs when we beat them at Emirates. Not happy with this starting line-up – Emery taking a huge gamble.

Never too early to start, Sarah…

The line-ups…

11:30: And here are the sides. Headline news is… well it’s why on either Unai Emery has left Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the bench today.

Tottenham XI: Lloris, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Trippier, Sissoko, Wanyama, Rose, Eriksen, Son, Kane.

Subs: Gazzaniga, Aurier, Davies, Skipp, Lamela, Moura, Llorente.

Arsenal XI: Leno, Sokratis, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal, Guendouzi, Xhaka, Ramsey, Mkhitaryan, Iwobi, Lacazette.

Subs: Cech, Maitland-Niles, Kolasinac, Torreira, Suarez, Ozil, Aubameyang.

Players arrive

11:28: Just seen footage of the Tottenham players arriving at Wembley.

Did you know they wear all black suits? My old rugby coach used to make my Under-13 side do the same… we rarely saw the psychological benefits…

Spurs need a boost

11:25: What a difference a week makes.

Talk of a title tilt could become a battle for a top-four finish if Tottenham do not use the north London derby to bounce back from defeats at Burnley and Chelsea.

Harry Kane avoided punishment following an out-of-character incident with Cesar Azpilicueta in midweek and Spurs will need their star turn firing on all cylinders on Saturday lunchtime.

Having entered last weekend within five points of the summit, Tottenham could remarkably see their gap over Arsenal cut to a point at Wembley.

Unai Emery’s side have won four of their last five matches and are looking to inflict a destabilising first home north London derby defeat on Pochettino.

Morning…

11:20: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Premier League.

Did I miss something?

When was the law passed that states all derbies have to be played on the same weekend?!

We’ve got the North London, Merseyside, Rome, El Clasico and West London derbies all taking place over the next 24 hours.

I’m not complaining – It would just be nice to warn my family and loved ones that I won’t be seeing them until Monday…

Anyway, we’re gearing up for Arsenal’s short trip to Tottenham, who are in danger of losing three consecutive Premier League games for the first time since November 2012.

You know who that third defeat was against back then? Yep, Arsenal.

TOTTENHAM vs ARSENAL

Tottenham will give fitness tests to Jan Vertonghen and Harry Winks ahead of Saturday’s north London derby. Vertonghen picked up a hip injury in the build-up to Wednesday’s defeat at Chelsea, where Winks sustained a similar problem. Dele Alli (hamstring) and Eric Dier (tonsillitis) are both out.

Captain Laurent Koscielny should be fit to lead out Arsenal. The defender was forced off in Wednesday’s win over Bournemouth after taking a knock to his knee – but it is expected that he will be ready to face Spurs. Stephan Lichtsteiner (back) is also available with long-term absentees Danny Welbeck (ankle), Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding (both knee) still missing.

Last season: Tottenham 1 Arsenal 0, Arsenal 2 Tottenham 0

Last five league matches: Tottenham W W W L L; Arsenal W L W W W

Top scorers (all competitions): Harry Kane (Tottenham) 21; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal) 19

Referee: Anthony Taylor (Cheshire)
