and the received an enthusiastic welcome when they attended the 2019 Awards ceremony inside the Royal Albert Hall last night. But moments after the ceremony ended, the Duke of Cambridge appeared to have lost his whereabouts as a helper had to grab his arm and lead him in the right direction.

During the ceremony, the Prince presented the BAFTA’s most prestigious award, the Fellowship, to veteran American film editor Thelma Schoonmaker.

Presenting the award, he commented: “Her work has produced some of the most memorable moments in cinema.”

The Royal couple were greeted at the venue entrance by BAFTA chief executive Craig Hassall.

As they entered, the audience took to their feet and remained silent until the Duke and Duchess had taken their seats in the front row.

During an address Prince William also praised the work BAFTA undertakes to develop actors, commenting: “Tonight’s nominees are a true testament to BAFTA’s dedication to funding and supporting that talent.”

British actress Olivia Colman was the queen of the Baftas as The Favourite scored seven prizes at the glittering ceremony.

The Broadchurch star beat Glenn Close, Lady Gaga, Melissa McCarthy and Viola Davis to win the leading actress prize for her turn as a cantankerous Queen Anne in the spiky period drama.

The movie was also named outstanding British film, with Rachel Weisz taking the best-supporting-actress prize, beating her co-star Emma Stone in the category.

The film had led the nominations ahead of the ceremony, with 12 nods.

Taking to the stage after her name was called, Colman admitted, “I’m very shaky, sorry”, and told the crowd she could not read her notes, before adding she thanked “all the producers, obvs.”

Addressing the other winners from The Favourite, she said: “We are having an amazing night aren’t we?”

Speaking about her co-stars Weisz and Stone, Colman said: “As far as I’m concerned all three of us are the same and should be the leads and it’s weird we can’t do that.

“This is for all three of us. It’s got my name on it but we can scratch on some other ones.”

The film also received accolades for its costume design, production design, make-up and hair, as well as for its original screenplay.
