Federer and Tsitsipas played out an entertaining match in Dubai but it was the Swiss star who prevailed 6-4 6-4.
Tsitsipas has made no secret of the fact that Federer is one of his childhood heroes.
And the Greek said it had been an “honour” to share the court with Federer and hailed him for reaching 100 titles.
Tsitsipas said: “It’s an honour to play against Roger.
“I’ve said it thousands of times, I’ve been idolising him since the age of six.
“In Monte Carlo, I had the opportunity to watch you [Federer] play and you put the biggest smile on my face. And now sharing the court is even better.
“I would like to personally congratulate you for the 100. It’s been a long journey I’m pretty sure.
“Getting to 100 is completely insane, I don’t know how you got there. I’ll be happy with 100 wins!
“It’s a great achievement. Not many people have achieved that so double congratulations.
“You’ve created history in tennis. Keep doing what you are doing.”
Federer expressed his delight before receiving his trophy saying: “It’s been a wonderful week for me.
“Difficult conditions throughout, tough opponents all the way through to Stefanos.
“It’s a privilege [to play against possible future champions] because I’ll be watching them on the TV.
“It was a treat to play Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi. I’m sure Stefanos will have a wonderful career.
“Tennis is in good hands regardless if I’m there or not.”
