That is according to Amazon Prime pundit Greg Rusedski.
Last week, Nadal was stunned by Kyrgios in the second round of the Mexican Open and the pair have been embroiled in a war of words ever since.
And this weekend, Nadal will return to action at Indian Wells against either Tatsuma Ito or Jared Donaldson.
Nadal has won the “fifth Grand Slam” on three occasion in the past and is the second seed at this week’s event.
In Nadal’s half of the draw, he could meet Roger Federer in the semi-finals before a potential clash with Novak Djokovic in the final.
And Rusedski feels if Nadal can navigate his way safely through this draw, the Spaniard will be danger.
“If you look at the draw for Rafa, the opening matches have been pretty kind,” Rusedski told Amazon Prime.
“If you look at Federer and Djokovic, there draws are a lot more difficult so he can work his way into the tournament.
“And he likes to get his rhythm. Once he gets his rhythm, he usually goes deep in tournaments.
“Losing to Kyrgios in Acapulco is a blessing because he doesn’t have bad back-to-back weeks.”
Speaking ahead of his opening match, Nadal hailed the tournament.
“This tournament is important enough to stand on its own name,” said Nadal.
“I love not being in a big city and the calm we have out here in the desert. I love the views and the organisation here is one of the best.”
