Mirza Fakhrul raises questions about the current law and order situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakrul Amolgir said that the current law and order situation in Bangladesh is not satisfactory. He made this comment in response to questions from journalists at Thakurgaon Kalibari Basavan on Friday (January 9). He said that the university student parliament elections will not affect the national elections. For the past 17 years, the Chhatra Dal has not been allowed to carry out any organizational activities in universities. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the law and order situation in the country ahead of the elections.
The people of the country are waiting for the elections, but I am not satisfied with the law and order situation. At the rate at which political leaders are being killed, many leaders of our party have also been killed. We have strongly condemned and expressed our condolences on behalf of the party. But no such action has been taken by the government. We hope that the government will play a more responsible role and work to ensure that these incidents do not happen again.’
He further said, ‘BNP wanted the national elections and referendum on the same day, and that is how it happened. The reforms on which the referendum is being held have been highlighted by BNP long ago in its 31-point manifesto. There is no justification for BNP to say no to the ongoing reform process.’
On the security issue, the BNP Secretary General said, ‘I am not wearing a bulletproof jacket for my own safety. Since many political party leaders are being attacked, many may be wearing bulletproof jackets for their own safety.’
He said, ‘Tareq Rahman’s visit to North Bengal is very important. If the government is formed in the future, the backward regions will be given much more priority. This visit of Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman will further energize the leaders and workers of the northern region. This is a personal visit of Tariq Rahman, he will visit the graves of July fighter Shaheed Abu Sayeed and other martyrs and will also participate in the mass prayer mahfil of the late national leader Begum Khaleda Zia.’
Also present at the event were District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Poygam Ali, Municipal BNP President Shariful Islam Sharif, Sadar Upazila BNP General Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin and others.
