That is the view of NBA expert Jonathan Tjarks.
The Lakers have been chasing a trade for the New Orleans Pelicans star, and have reportedly made six trade offers.
Young stars Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram have all been included in potential trades, but so far only one future draft pick has reportedly been offered.
On Monday, Davis told the franchise that he wanted a trade to one of four teams, including the Lakers, the Milwaukee Bucks, the LA Clippers or the New York Knicks.
But the Lakers’ offers so far have not been good enough for the Pelicans, and it is reported that they will demand two first round picks as well as a host of young stars.
One reported offer included Ball, Kuzma, Rajon Rondo, Michael Beasley and one first-round pick.
However, the offer was then reportedly improved to include Lance Stephenson and Ingram, as well as two first-round picks.
And Tjarks believes the Lakers, who are in the NBA Western Conference, have no choice but to make the move now.
The insider made the comments on The Ringer’s NBA podcast.
“I think the Lakers have to make it at this point,” he said.
“They don’t have any plan B at this point.
“If you’re New Orleans, you know you have them in your back pocket.
“And if you’re New Orleans, you can shop that offer around.
“I think they’ve been counting on Boston, but now Boston’s offer might not even be there this summer.
“I think, depending on how aggressive other teams from around the league want to be, there are better offers for the Pelicans than Ingram, Lonzo and picks that might not have value.”
The trade deadline is on February 7, and if a deal is not done by then, the Lakers will have to wait until the summer.
