Old-school glamour and fine-dining returns in style to London. Some of the most iconic stars of music and burlesque will perform at the newly restored Apollo theatre with the main floor converted into a spectacular restaurant with a menu by celebrity chef Bryn Williams. Joss Stone will sing the extraordinary songbook of Burt Bacharach, accompanied by the great man himself. Soul legend George Benson headlines his own show before Marc Almond brings the short season to a close on a night of glamour and torch songs, with glittering support from Immodesty Blaize. Advance tickets go on sale today with general tickets released on Friday.
The line-up is thrilling enough, but what makes this new season so fabulous is the return of the golden age of the dinner show. There won’t just be treats on stage. Williams worked with Gordon Ramsay and Michel Roux before launching his own restaurants. Taste buds will be tingled as the audience enjoys some of the greatest icons of soul, pop and jazz.
The season kicks of with two nights with Burt Bacharach and Joss Stone supported by an orchestra on July 16 and 17.
Their dream partnership was forged in 2015, as the legendary Grammy award-winning songwriter found his latest musical muse to breathe life into iconic standards from I’ll Never Fall In Love Again, The Look Of Love, I Say A Little Prayer to Walk On By and countless more.
Legendary ten-time Grammy Award and NEA Jazz Master winner George Benson follows over the next two nights – July 18 and 19. Benson will be joined by his regular all-American band.
Saturday July 20 provides the grand finale. Marc Almond will fuse his own electro-pop back catalogue from Tainted Love onwards with his ongoing love of classic torch songs and cabaret. Modesty Blaize is the Queen of the modern burlesque revival. Europe’s biggest burlesque superstar will add her own touch of suggestive sauce to the banquet on stage and in the restaurant.
It all sounds simply too delicious, darlings.
The Apollo Nights Summer Series is a showcase for the iconic venue’s newly restored Art-Deco grandeur.
