Cena is now in Canada filming his next movie Playing With Fire for which the production ends on April 1.
That date cast doubt on The Champ’s WrestleMania status as it will be very hard to get him involved in a storyline when he can’t even be part of WWE programming.
Mania takes place on April 7 at the MetLife Stadium in New York and The Leader of the Cenation will probably not be available until the last episode of RAW before the Show of Shows.
However, according to Ringside News, Brad Shepard said on the ‘Oh, You Didn’t Know’ podcast that the 16-time world champion will be part of the Showcase of the Immortals in some capacity.
Shepard said: “There have been some reports circulating that John Cena will not work WrestleMania this year.
“A source in WWE told me this week that we’ll still get Cena at WrestleMania.”
Cena was initially scheduled to compete in the Men’s Royal Rumble Match last month.
However, the ex-WWE Champion suffered an ankle injury during a No1 Contender’s Fatal 4-Way Match on RAW against Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin and Finn Balor.
However, rumours suggest the injury isn’t real and that the former World Heavyweight Champion was ommited from the Royal Rumble due to his Hollywood schedule.
The initial plan was to have NXT call-up Lars Sullivan taking him out of action and setting up a potential WrestleMania feud.
However, plans changed after Sullivan suffered a rumoured anxiety attack and couldn’t perform.
It is not yet certain if Cena will compete at WrestleMania but the report suggests he could at least make a non-wrestling appearance.
The wrestling legend has been working on a part-time basis with WWE due to his busy Hollywood schedule and advanced age of 41.
The former US Champion is building an impressive career in film as he has taken part in a series of blockbuster comedies.
He is now cutting his teeth in the action movie genre as he stars in the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee with Academy Award Nominee Hailee Steinfeld.
