Hobbs and Shaw is the spin-off action-movie fans didn’t know they needed. First appearing in the Fast and Furious series, Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson were given their own dedicated spin-off. Johnson himself shared the trailer online yesterday to the delight of fans worldwide…

Who stars in the cast of Hobbs and Shaw?

Those hoping for some additional familiar faces from the Fast and Furious series will be disappointed.

Hobbs and Shaw’s cast includes the aforementioned Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs.

Luke Hobbs is a federal agent working for the DSS and also at odds with Shaw after the events of Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious.

Jason Statham, who also appeared in Fast and Furious, plays Deckard Shaw.

Shaw is a former British Special Forces assassin turned mercenary who had been imprisoned by Hobbs after his defeat in Los Angeles and thus is at odds with him.

Idris Elba as Brixton, an international terrorist leader and a criminal mastermind who is in conflict with Hobbs and Shaw.

Vanessa Kirby plays Hattie Shaw, an MI6 field agent and Deckard’s sister.

Helen Mirren plays Deckard, Owen and Hattie’s mother, Magdalene Shaw.

Roman Reigns, a professional pro wrestler, plays Duke Hobbs, Luke’s brother.

Eiza Gonzalez plays Madam M., who we can only presume is a villain.

Eddie Marsan, Cliff Curtis, Josh Mauga, and John Tui all have unnamed roles.

The events of Hobbs and Shaw take place two years after the events of The Fate of the Furious.

Federal agent Luke Hobbs and former-British military turned mercenary Deckard Shaw must join forces in order to stop a new threat emerging from the cyber-genetically enhanced international terrorist known as Brixton.

In 2015 Vin Diesel told Variety there were potential Fast and Furious spin offs in development.

By October 2017, the spin-off film centres around Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw was announced by Universal Pictures.

Its release date was set as July 26, 2019, with Chris Morgan returning to write the script.

The release date was pushed back to August 2, 2019.

As is his tendency, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson shared the trailer on his Instagram account.

Johnson wrote: “Get your popcorn & tequila‬ ready for our official WORLDWIDE @HobbsAndShaw trailer! ‬

“‪We have the baddest bad guy & biggest showdown the FAST & FURIOUS franchise has ever seen.‬

“‪And my pasty partner is a real asshole. ‬‪Link in bio for full trailer. Have fun, my friends. ‬”

Hobbs and Shaw is out in cinemas on August 2, 2019.
