Andy King went viral when he was seen recalling a moment during the ill-fated festival’s shambolic preparations when he was asked to perform oral sex on a man in order to obtain bottled water for the guests. The festival’s disgraced founder Billy McFarland asked him to “take one for the team” with a customs officer, and King was seen expressing disbelief that, in the moment, he was “fully prepared” to do it. Thankfully, he never had to go through with it.

“I’m blown away with the response to the documentary,” King told Netflix in a new follow-up video.

“I’m now a noun, a verb and an adjective! It’s mind-boggling.

“When someone reached out last weekend and said, ‘you’re trending’, I was like, ‘I don’t even know what trending means’.

“’People are talking about you’, I’m like, ‘oh gosh’.”

King doesn’t use social media himself but has been made aware of the huge number of memes and jokes made about his confessions.

“I was like, ‘what’s a me-me?’” he said. “They’re like, ‘no Andy, it’s a meme. And they’re creating ads about you.”

Saying he doesn’t want to be known as the “b*** j** king of the world”, King said he’s now working to compensate the Bahamian staff who were shamefully unpaid for their work on the festival.

“After doing a documentary about this and you have your 15 minutes of fame, what happens next?” he said.

“One of our biggest goals is paying back everybody in the Bahamas, and so it’s kind of rewarding that we started a GoFundMe last week to help Maryann [a Bahamian woman who paid staff out of her own savings], and we’ve committed to that project, and it’s met all of its goals and a lot more.

“And now we’ve started another GoFundMe which is focussing on paying back all the labourers and everybody else that was involved with Fyre.

“If I can drive positive influences and a lot of positive energy towards social and environmental impact then I think I can utilise this moment to do a lot of good.”

Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened is streaming now on Netflix.
