Adrien Rabiot to Arsenal – Pires

Arsenal legend Robert Pires thinks Unai Emery could use his previous ties with PSG to sign Adrien Rabiot.

“Rabiot is a very good player and Arsenal should be trying their best to secure his signature before any other club does,” said Pires, speaking to bwin .

“Arsenal have the advantage of Emery having already worked with him at PSG, which should hopefully sway Rabiot to join Arsenal.

“He would be worth a big fee on the transfer market so the fact he’s free makes it a no brainer. If Emery can secure Rabiot then I think he’ll be able to fill the hole that will be left by Ramsey’s departure.”

Sergio Ramos suspended

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has been hit with a two-game suspension for “clearly receiving a yellow card on purpose”, UEFA have announced.

Ramos received a yellow card for a foul on Kasper Dolberg late in his side’s 2-1 win at Ajax in their Champions League last-16, first-leg match.

As a result of the booking, the 32-year-old was suspended from next Tuesday’s second leg.

This, however, reduced his chances of possibly missing a more important match later in the competition, as all bookings are wiped from the quarter-final stage.

In a television interview after the game, Ramos said: “Looking at the result I would be lying if I said it wasn’t intentional.”

Vinicius/Messi comparisons unhelpful – Alba

Real Madrid talent Vinicius Junior should NOT be compared with Lionel Messi.

That’s the opinion of Barcelona defender Jordi Alba, who believes people should be careful with the Brazilian winger.

Vinicius, 18, was one of few positives for Real Madrid during their Copa del Rey semi-final second leg defeat to Barcelona last night.

His vision, dazzling runs and attacking flair has inevitably drawn comparisons with Barcelona superstar Messi.

But Alba has urged caution.

“In the end, we’re comparing him to the best in the world… bloody hell!” he told Cope. “Vinicius is a great player, I have never said anything about him… We have to be sensitive about it, we have to be honest.”

Done Deal – Alba signs

Barcelona have agreed to extend left back Jordi Alba’s contract until 2024, and have included an eye-watering buy-out clause of £428million.

Spain international Alba has played 282 games for Barca since re-joining from Valencia in 2012 after being released by the club as a teenager, winning 14 trophies including four La Liga titles, four Copa del Reys and the 2015 Champions League.

Alba, 29, has been capped 67 times by Spain and was part of the side that won the 2012 European Championship.

The full back has grown in importance to the team since Ernesto Valverde took over as coach in 2017 and has a good understanding with Lionel Messi, providing 20 assists for the Argentine forward.

Cristian Romero transfer plea

Genoa defender Cristian Romero has called on Manchester United or Barcelona to snap him up!

There are claims Juventus have already got an agreement in place to sign the promising youngster.

But Romero has opened the door on a potential move by insisting he is in the dark over his future.

“I’ve always wanted to become a professional football player and I’ve made it happen,” he told Corriere dello Sport.

“Now I dream of playing in the Champions League for one of the four most important clubs in the world: Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United.

“After that, I want to be part of the Argentine national team, even if I know it’s difficult because there’s Otamendi, one of the best in the world.

“Have Juve already secured me? I don’t know. I don’t deal with the market and my first thought is Genoa. There’s still so many matches remaining and I want to keep playing like I am. After that, I’ll talk to the directors and my agent.”
