BARCELONA 0-1 REAL MADRID

45: Nope, no Lionel Messi as the second half gets underway. In fact, there are no changes for either side.

BARCELONA 0-1 REAL MADRID

HT: Real have enjoyed plenty of the game tonight and that has come as a surprise to many, especially as Barca thrashed their rivals 5-1 in the league last time they met.

Will we see the introduction of Lionel Messi in this second half?

HT: Vinicius’ volley is blocked on the stroke of half time and the referee blows his whistle. Insanely entertaining game poised nicely at the break.

42: Booked! Seemed joins Sergio Ramos in the book having checked Vinicius. Looked harsh but he knew what the was doing.

39: Can Real Madrid hold out until the break? Barcelona are camped inside the visitors’ half but can’t find that killer pass.

36: Luis Suarez goes close but again Navas does the business to bail out his side. Malcom threads it through to Suarez, who sees a low effort parried wide.

33: Woodwork! Barcelona nearly level things up with a Malcom free-kick that Ivan Rakitic turns onto the crossbar. This game is being played at a relentless pace.

30: Barcelona did announce that Lionel Messi was 100 percent fit tonight – merely a tactical decision to leave him on the bench.

27: Jordi Alba is doing his best to galvanise his side but his latest effort is foiled by Navas, who races off his line to clear the danger.

24: Real nearly notch up a second against this disjointed and Messi-less Barcelona.

Kroos arrives in the penalty area to fire Vinicius’ cross over from about 12 yards out. Not the easiest chance.

21: Keylor Navas save! The Real Madrid stopper is drawn into action when parrying Malcom’s effort. It was straight down the middle from Malcom to be fair…

I’ll see myself out.

18: Coutinho gifts the ball to Vinicius, who wins a corner that Suarez is back to clear. Real Madrid continue to dominate at the Nou Camp.

15: Eh?! Vinicius and Benzema fight for the ball (yes, you’ve read that right) before the Frenchman wins it and sees a shot blocked by Pique.

12: Philippe Coutinho takes an eternity to pick out a pass through to Luis Suarez but Carvajal reads it rather easily and hoofs it into orbit.

Very much in the ‘Ave it’ style of clearances. Agricultural I think we’re supposed to call it these days.

9: Death, taxes and a Sergio Ramos booking in El Clasico. Ramos decides to body-check Nelson Semedo and despite an effort at a sincere protests… still finds himself in the referee’s notebook.

Nothing came from that free-kick.

BARCELONA 0-1 REAL MADRID | VAZQUEZ

6: You can’t say it hasn’t been coming!

Real Madrid draw first blood thanks to a fine finish from Lucas Vazquez!

Karim Benzema controls a deep cross and lays it into the path of Vazquez, who composes himself before steering the ball into the far corner.

5: Save! Luka Modric and Vinicius link up nicely in Barcelona territory before Toni Kroos hammers one down Ter Stegen’s throat from 25 yards out.

3: Now is it just me or are Barcelona looking a bit nervous without their esteemed leader? Real Madrid controlling these opening stages.

1: Y’all ready for this? We’re underway in the mighty El Clasico at the Nou Camp.

‘We want to win everything’

Real Madrid coach Santiago Solari: “They’re different competitions. We want to win everything and put the same focus and the same approach to the football as in the previous matches.

“The important thing is how we approach the tie. We can’t think any further in to the future. In football you have to look at the short, the medium and the long term, but the competition has its own rhythm and can cause unexpected things.”

Isco bust-up

Isco has reportedly been involved in a training ground bust-up ahead of Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey showdown with Barcelona tonight.

Spanish outlet Ok Diario say Isco was involved in a training ground bust-up with team-mate Sergio Reguilon.

OK Diario director Eduardo Inda said: “Isco is very nervous. Reguilon entered and they did not get to hit, but they had to separate because Isco was going for him.”

Isco has lost the support of the Real Madrid locker room in recent times.

And fans, too, have turned against the Spaniard amid his current issues under Santiago Solari.

Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic futures

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has discussed the futures of Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic amid interest from Manchester United and PSG.

Coutinho and Rakitic have both been tipped to leave the Nou Camp when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

But Barcelona president Bartomeu has ruled out both players leaving the club.

Regarding Rakitic, he said: “I talk to him, and he knows, when the club has a new economic capacity, we will sit down and talk.

“Now it is not the case.”

And, on Coutinho, he said: “He is very young and we expect a lot from him.

“We do not want to sell Coutinho.”

Of all the colours…

Barcelona are reported to have rejected Nike’s design for a new away kit because it’s too similar to that worn by rivals Real Madrid.

The strip, which is predominantly white, was designed to commemorate the Catalan patron saint, St George.

However, Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo say the proposed away kit for the 2020/2021 season has been ‘vetoed’ by Barcelona executives.

The report adds that chiefs are worried that any potential controversy about the strip could affect the next presidential election, due to be held in 2021.

Another five-star showing for Barcelona?

Barcelona have been the team to beat in LaLiga once again this season.

Their 5-1 thrashing of Real Madrid earlier in the campaign led to Julen Lopetegui losing his job as coach just months after taking over.

Luis Suarez bagged a hat-trick on a night to remember for Barcelona but their Clasico rivals have improved since then and will be keen to exact a modicum of revenge tonight.

Lionel Messi… benched!

The headline news is that Barcelona saviour Lionel Messi starts on the bench tonight.

The diminutive Argentinian is in fine form but suffered a minor leg injury in Saturday’s LaLiga draw with Valencia.

And while Messi trained on Tuesday evening, he’s not fit enough to start.

Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen, Semedo, Pique, Lenglet, Alba, Rakitic, Busquets, Arthur, Malcom, Suarez, Coutinho.

Subs: Alena, Messi, Murillo, Boateng, Roberto, Vidal, Inaki.

Real Madrid XI: Navas, Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Marcelo, Kroos, Llorente, Modric, Vazquez, Benzema, Vinicius.

Subs: Courtois, Nacho, Bale, Casemiro, Asensio, Isco, Ceballos.

Barcelona vs Real Madrid – Lionel Messi latest

Lionel Messi trained for Barcelona ahead of their Copa del Rey semi-final first-leg meeting with rivals Real Madrid as he looks to prove his fitness.

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde admits he is still unsure if the Argentina attacker will be available for the El Clasico tie at the Nou Camp.

Messi has been battling a leg injury suffered in Saturday’s LaLiga win over Valencia – a game in which the 31-year-old scored his 12th goal in his last nine games.

“I’ve not seen Messi today… so have no answer,” Valverde told reporters BEFORE Barcelona’s Tuesday evening training session.

“We have training now, we will see how he is. I’m not big on taking risks when there are a lot of games ahead of us. If LaLiga ended tomorrow, if it was our last game… but if a player has an injury, whether it’s Messi or not, I prefer to be careful.”
