Arsenal star delivers injury boost to Unai Emery on social media before Europa League game | Football | Sport

The Spaniard took his first steps after undergoing knee surgery in January.

Bellerin suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in the 2-0 win over Chelsea.

The right-back underwent surgery in Spain and is now on the road to recovery as he looks to get fit for the start of next season.

And this afternoon he took his first steps after his operation with the aid of crutches.

Bellerin tweeted: “One small step for man, one big step for Heccy.”

Before suffering the injury, the 23-year-old had made 19 Premier League appearances.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles has become first-choice under Emery since Bellerin’s injury.

And Shkodran Mustafi has also plated the off match at right-back following in the Spaniard’s absence.

Arsenal fans were encouraged by Bellerin’s update.

One responded: “Heccy B is my man. Nice to see your progress and can’t wait to see you back on the pitch for us.”

Another added: “Go on Hector. Small progress is still progress.”

A third said: “Speedy and safe recovery bro.”

Arsenal will be without Bellerin for their crunch Europa League last 16 clash with Rennes tonight.

The Gunners trail their French opponents 3-1 following the first leg last week in which Sokratis was sent off.

The match kicks off at 8pm at the Emirates.
