EC declares Tasnim Zara’s nomination papers as valid
The Election Commission (EC) has declared Tasnim Zara’s nomination paper valid. Tasnim Zara is an independent candidate for the Dhaka-9 constituency. Earlier, Tasnim Zara had submitted her nomination paper, but the EC cancelled her nomination paper. The reason given was that Tasnim is not a voter in the same area.
Last (January 3), the Election Commission had declared Tasnim Zara’s nomination paper invalid after scrutinising it. Tasnim appealed against the EC’s announcement. Today (January 10) is the first day of hearing the appeal of the nomination paper. And today, Zara’s nomination paper was declared valid.
Incidentally, a total of 70 applications will be heard against the order of cancellation of candidacy till 5 pm today. Until Friday, 723 people had applied to restore their candidacy. However, later 78 people decided to withdraw from the election. Finally, the appeals of 645 people were finalised. The hearing on the disposal of these applications will continue till January 18. The opportunity to withdraw candidacy will be available till January 20. After that, the election campaign will start after the symbol is finalized.
Tasneem Zara was holding an important position in the Bangladesh NCP party. She was supposed to participate in the elections on behalf of the NCP. However, NCP chief Nahid announced an alliance with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (Jamaat). Due to this, Zara resigned from the NCP. And decided to participate in the elections as an independent candidate.
